Stepping onto the scene with a powerful voice and unique sense of style, Magdalena Quintana, the great-great-granddaughter of John Dodge of the Dodge Brothers car empire, has brought a fresh vibe to the country/pop music world. With a long history and passion for music, Magdalena has no intention of looking back now.
Raised in both a small town in the Pacific Northwest, Port Townsend, Washington, and at a small mountain community near Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, Magdalena began singing at a very early age, with the influence of her mother and father. Her mother, a long time lover of music and singing, and father, a passionate guitar player, who dabbled in songwriting, surrounded Magdalena with a love for music early on.
Magdalena took part in every school musical, choir, and talent show growing up; singing, dancing, writing songs and playing the violin, but it wasn’t until she went to college at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, that she found her first vocal coach. With his help, she recorded her first demo, and in the fall of 2009, she moved herself to Los Angeles. Once in LA, Magdalena took vocal lessons, guitar lessons, attended numerous songwriting and performance workshops, and performed live gigs around the LA area, at The House of Blues and other major venues. In the fall of 2014, she independently released her debut pop EP, The Diary. Several of the songs off of The Diary were picked up in the UK for national airplay in retail stores and restaurants and went to radio in South America. Magdalena has also independently produced several official music videos for her singles, which can be found on VEVO.
Magdalena is currently in Nashville working on a new country/pop EP and two accompanying music videos, due out late 2019.
She continues to perform live shows while traveling, and while at home in Los Angeles and Nashville. Tour plans are in the works, following the release of the upcoming EP.
Magdalena shared with me what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman artist:
“Personally, to me, being an Indie Music Woman Artist means being fearless, strong, and passionate. Being an independent artist is not easy, and being a woman in this industry is not easy. I do this because I love music above all else, and I know that to not pursue it, and share my voice to the best of my ability, would be to let myself down. I have to be fearless enough to follow my dreams, strong enough to never let the opinions of others stop me, and passionate enough to keep striving, no matter what hardships may arise. I have to be my own biggest fan and supporter, because, just like in life, if I don’t fiercely believe in myself, nobody else will either.”
