Indie Music Women’s Artist of the Day is…
burwell (@burwellmusic)
“I thought changing my name would help me let go of history… but it stayed with me like a memory.”
When she changed her name in 2016, removing “burwell” was her way of trying to pretend the past didn’t happen… without a real way to erase it, time is starting to reveal the beauty in a mysterious way. With pop-inspired lyrics and whimsical undertones, burwell’s latest track, “Can’t Stop,” longs for the “freedom feeling” she found in Nashville, TN, Summer 2014. Ever since that summer, she has been a part of music projects focused on sync/licensing & has been focusing on writing new songs.
While the road to chase her dreams has been met with moments of both triumph & resistance, her pursuit of music hasn’t gone away. The writer of song lyrics with one reviewer described as “ballet grace with poetic devotion,’ she feels it’s time to dust off the past & see what’s underneath.
burwell shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“For me, it means pushing through personal struggles, self-doubt, and the risk of looking silly for the sake of sharing something I believe in. It requires courage and reminds me I am brave enough to break through my comfort zone if it means I can inspire someone… even if that someone is myself.”
You can hear burwell’s single, “Can’t Stop (Acoustic)” on the Indie Music Women’s Spotify Playlist.
