Jayna Jennings (@jayna__jennings)⠀
⠀
Only two percent of the population are redheads, and Jayna Jennings makes music as unique as her hair. Jayna welcomes you into her world with her emotive, moving, and relatable songwriting. All 9 songs on ‘Courtyards & Aviaries, Pt. 1,’ an album penned by Jennings, have received worldwide radio airplay. As host of #UnsignedChat and Showcase with Jayna Jennings, Jayna is an avid supporter of other musicians and has enjoyed promoting new music from passionate artists. Jayna’s mission is to spread a message of hope, and this spirit is showcased on her newest album, ‘Courtyards & Aviaries, Pt. 2.’ She recently received the Americana/Folk/Bluegrass vocalist of the year award at the Josie Music Awards, the largest, Independent Music Industry Award show!⠀
⠀
Jayna shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:⠀
“To me, being a female indie artist is the best job ever because I get to put into words what I know other human beings experience. I get to communicate life and all it’s good and bad parts with people all over the world. To me that is a wonderful and huge responsibility. I think about that when I write songs because I know that music has a huge effect on culture, and I want to make sure that I make a positive impact on the people who listen to my music. I especially love the idea that young women who listen to the songs I’ve written about my life lessons can find comfort or inspiration.“⠀

Featured Artist of the Day
Featured Artist of the Day: Erica Torres
Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…⠀
⠀
Erica Torres (@erica_frequency)⠀
⠀
Erica Torres is the front woman/guitarist and lyricist of Alternative Rock band Frequency Within, a four-piece, female-fronted alternative Christian rock outfit based out of Orange County, California.⠀
⠀
Erica shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:⠀
⠀
“To be an independent musical artist is rough as it is. Having to wear multiple hats from being the writer, accountant, editor, and sometimes own critic takes patience. To be a woman on top of all of that makes it a little rougher sometimes. Although women have made enormous strides in the music industry there are times when certain walls in genres need to be broken down, even in this day in age. Women are still looked at as dainty or even not taken seriously.
To be an independent music woman is a badge of honor to have because it’s saying “HEY! I AM GOING TO GO AGAINST THE GRAIN, AGAINST WHAT SOCIETY TELLS ME WHAT OR WHO I SHOULD BE.” It means holding onto my strong femininity while being a boss at what I do. It’s taking advantage of the platform we have and saying our truth through music whether it be heartbreak, political, grief, happiness, or what walk of life we are in. It’s continuing the path that many have started like Joan Jett, Janis Joplin, Blondie, Stevie Nicks, it’s concreting that women like those named prior are still paving the way and changing music.”⠀

Featured Artist of the Day: KRISH
Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
KRISH (@heeykrish)⠀
⠀
KRISH is a singer, songwriter, and producer based in Frankfurt, Germany.⠀
⠀
When she joined a gospel choir as a teenager, she didn’t know that, ten years later, she would write, compose and produce her own songs. In 2015, she uploaded her first attempts to YouTube and SoundCloud. Now, five years later, she is far in excess of being an amateur-home-studio-musician who likes to make songs for her friends. She wants her voice to be heard by anyone who can relate.⠀
⠀
Inspired by BANKS, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Nao, Morcheeba, Sinead Harnett, XXXTENTACION and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, KRISH blends Alternative Pop with contemporary R&B. Under the pseudonym SirenSounds, she also delivers her own type beats that can be purchased on the producer platform BeatStars. Additionally, KRISH writes and produces songs for her closest friend Anice who enjoyed a classical musical education and always encourages her to sing and to show the world that she sings.⠀
⠀
Outside of the music industry, KRISH is a teacher with the objective of raising awareness of injustices and educating herself and others about racism and sexism.⠀
⠀
KRISH shared with me what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman:⠀
“Being an indie music woman artist means to me that I have the freedom to choose how I want to express myself as an artist. I do not have to bow down to anybody’s sexist expectations or to sell my body or to play dumb in order to be “successful”. I feel successful already because I work hard on my music, not only writing heartfelt lyrics or melodies but also producing and mixing my beats in a business dominated by men. Just as the community is full of role models for me, I want to be both a respected and respecting role model for others, too. In order to achieve this, you have to respect yourself first.“⠀

Featured Artist of the Day: Onism E
Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
Onism E (@onism_e) ⠀
⠀
Onism E is San Antonio and New York City’s newest indie rock band. From singer/songwriter and former Senate Records recording artist Eline Chavez, this new project comes after an extended hiatus from the tour scene to further craft and develop her production skills. After a few years of embedding herself in the production side of the music scene, she is finally back and ready to tell the story of those years out of the public eye. ⠀ ⠀
Known for being a workhorse in the indie music scene, Eline continues to develop her unique and ever-evolving style with Onism E. Rooted in rock music; this is a combination of her alt-rock style and a newfound love of moody and often dark melodies.⠀ ⠀
Promising to make 2019 exciting for her fans, Onism E has not failed to deliver. Releasing five songs this year with more in the pipeline, it’s clear that they have no plans of taking their foot off the pedal.⠀
⠀
Onism E shared with me what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman artist:⠀
“It means being fearless and uncompromising. I believe in what I’m doing as a musician and as a songwriter so I made sure to surround myself with people who do as well. That is the biggest battle. Once you have that, it’s just about keeping my foot on the gas and not looking back. Onism E is a project that showcases where I’ve been and where I’m going so I’m having a lot of fun.”⠀
