LA artist and songwriter Drea released her latest single, “Hometown”, on February 2nd. This is Drea’s first release since her debut No Vacancy EP in 2016. “Hometown” is an alternative pop track that gives us a glimpse into the direction of her sophomore project coming later this year. The single was produced by Kayja who will also be the music producer the rest of the project.
“Hometown” is about leaving home to fulfill your dreams, something that Drea has done herself. She packed up and left her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota in a rundown Jeep with only her dream and drove 2,000 miles to Los Angeles without a job, family or friends, or a place to live. The song, says Drea, “… is a declaration that no matter how hard things get, we are still here, we’re still fighting, we still believe in ourselves, and that’s why we’re not going home.”
The song starts out like an electronic pop song until the darkness of the piano and light drums comes in, creating an infinite sadness of a bluesy melody that seeps through, echoing the sentiment of the heartfelt lyrics. Drea slowly ramps up the power and range of her beautiful and emotive vocals leading into the chorus. This is where the strength of her sultry, passionate voice really shines. Her compelling voice conveys a gritty, turbulent determination of someone not about to give up on their dreams. The message of this song will touch you deeply and you’ll find yourself pressing repeat play often. “Hometown” is an anthem for everyone who is following their dream.
Highly Recommended. Drea shows us what an incredibly talented singer and songwriter she is. Her sophomore project will be highly anticipated and therefore, you should have her on your Artists To Watch list. Don’t miss out, grab a copy of “Hometown” now.
