Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
Jodie Rae (jodie_rae_music)
Singer-songwriter, musician and actor Jodie Rae is a 21-year-old musician from the West Coast of Scotland. Jodie uses an upbeat, intricate and often percussive finger-picking style which contrasts with her insightful and personal lyrics. Jodie uses her music as a raw, unfiltered outlet as opposed to her acting where she embodies different personalities and characters.
Jodie has gigged as a solo artist across various venues in Scotland. She is releasing her debut single ‘Creepin’’ on April 30th, 2021, a dark mysterious track telling a story of conflicted love. She will be releasing her follow-up single ‘Glance’ on August 6th, 2021 which revolves around vulnerability, love, and identity.
She is also active in the world of acting and performed most recently at the Wigtown Book Festival in 2019 and as an instrumental artist for a Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival Commission with Performance Collective Stranraer and the Young Promoters Group.
In November 2020, she was selected for DMC’s Futures Mentorship programme and used this as a tool to develop her music identity and songwriting. Jodie’s commission was also selected by the Young Promoters Group in 2021 involving BSL performance of three original tracks.

Jodie shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“Being an indie woman in music means giving an unfiltered version of my experiences through art, and being able to write however I want. I’ll create something I love and can be proud of, and witness firsthand how my work has developed through hard work and dedication. I can take risks with my writing, without feeling like there’s a specific formula I need to follow, meaning I can be completely transparent through my music.
Throughout the years I’ve been inspired by women who didn’t hesitate to say exactly how they felt through their music, even if it meant getting dropped by their label or being criticised by listeners. These women have paved the way for other female artists such as myself, in using music as a raw creative outlet.”
