Indie Music Women’s Artist of the Day is…
Jordan Bussell (@jordanbussell.music)
Jordan is a 20-something singer-songwriter from not quite the middle of nowhere in the South West of England. A full-time teacher of music and music technology in a school for young people with emotional and behavioral struggles, she is passionate about the emotive and therapeutic powers of music and has a dark but powerful style of writing that calls to the wilderness she grew up in.
She’s been on the musical circuit for over ten years and has recently put out her first official releases, her debut story style album ‘Wolves & Curses’ and a single, ‘To The Storms’ from the same collection. A jack of all trades musician and studio tech, she has written, performed, recorded, and produced all of her work entirely herself in her budget bedroom studio, all the way down to the mastering.
Jordan shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“I’ve been a Music and Music technology student for most of 20 years and a full-time Music and Music technology teacher for 10, and all too often I have been the only representative of my gender in those environments. The less frequent times I have the pleasure of teaching female students, I’ve been honoured to be a little inspiration and motivation to them as a totally DIY artist and producer, and am passionate about trying to increase the representation of women in music performance and composition but also in the recording, mixing and mastering fields. For me personally being an independent music female artist means empowerment and kicking gender expectations but also being an emotive storyteller, able to turn negative experiences and feelings into something beautiful and create something moving and hopefully relatable for others to connect with.”
