Indie Music Women’s Artist of the Day is…
Marty (@thebandmarty)
Marty is an all-female band based in Nottingham, dedicated to experimenting with new sounds and styles and trying out a multitude of genres. Their tracks have been heavily featured on BBC Introducing East Midlands with two tracks of the week on BBC Radio Nottingham and BBC Radio Derby. They also recently placed 12th out of 800 artists in BBC Introducing in the east midlands top 25 most played artists of 2019. They have also supported bands and artists such as You Want Fox, The Soap Girls, and The Rolling People.
Marty shared with me what it means to them personally to be an indie music women artists:
“We think the main thing is, yes, we are female musicians, but we are also simply musicians. There is definitely a lack of women in the indie genre, and we are happy to be a part of that small community, but we hope it won’t be long before there are more female indie bands so that the issue of gender will be irrelevant. We love bringing a little bit of girl power into our music and we’ve often had a few young girls come up to us after festival gigs interested in music. It was amazing to show them our guitars and let them have a play on the drums, we really hope we can have an impact on younger people and just really bring up the percentage of girls in the music industry.”
