The Recording Academy will be wrapping up the first ballot voting of Grammy Award considerations this week. Artists under consideration are raising their profiles on social media (#foryourconsideration) aimed at the Academy’s ballot voters in hopes of becoming a nominee on the final ballot.
What exactly does a Grammy consideration, nomination, or win do for your music career?
There are many benefits to winning a Grammy Award if that is your goal.
What if you’re an Indie artist?
Solveig Whittle shares hers and others’ experiences in what it takes to make that journey.
Indie artists do well with Grammy nominations. 55% in 2018 went to Indie artists, and Indie labels made up over 40% of Grammy wins that same year.
But are the Grammys doing enough for women artists?
After the 2018 controversy of women artists being asked “to step up”, it appeared that the 2019 Grammy Awards learned a lesson. The result was 31 women award winners, which was an 82% increase from the previous year.
Women not only walked away with more awards and dominated major categories, but two made history — Cardi B was the first solo female artist to win Best Rap Album and Emily Lazar won for Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) for Beck’s “Colors”.
That said, it would be equally impressive to have more Indie women artists, engineers, and producers, not only to be considered and nominated but win at this year’s 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
For your consideration, Recording Academy.
