Indie Music Women’s Artist of the Day is…
GRACE (@hey_there_grace)
GRACE is a 22-year-old singer-songwriter producing Electronic Indie Pop from her bedroom cupboard. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, her lyrics are often autobiographical in nature and capture the struggles of relationships, adolescence, and growth. After winning the Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition in 2015, GRACE has been quietly honing her skills as a producer. In this time, GRACE’s track Young, Naive & Reckless has accumulated nearly 300,000 streams on Spotify.
In 2020, GRACE is following this up with her self produced EP, Music From The Cupboard. When she’s not making music, GRACE lives a double life as a Civil Engineer, setting aside her savings for recording studios and production gear. Living the budget musician life to its fullest, GRACE is determined to make her own way in the music scene.
GRACE shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“Music production has traditionally been a male-dominated field. My personal goal is to become self-sufficient, so that I can write, sing and produce my tracks on my own. Being a woman in this field is an amazing opportunity, and I’d love to be able to collaborate with other female producers. As an artist, I’ve gained a lot of personal satisfaction from creating raw, honest lyrics and being able to express myself through them.”
You can hear GRACE’s single, “Echo Thoughts” on IMW’s Spotify Playlist.
