Indie Music Women’s Artist of the Day is…⠀
⠀
Antonia Kirby (@antoniakirbymusic)⠀
⠀
Antonia is a solo singer-songwriter from Warwickshire, whose original songs are known for being emotionally exposing and her voice both memorable and evocative. She has been described as “one of the most charismatic, dynamic and beautiful voices currently working the acoustic circuit” and affectionately referred to by some as “songbird”.⠀
⠀
Having previously supported The Sam Kelly Trio and Josienne Clark locally, as well as other well-loved local artists, she enjoys supporting and promoting the live and local scene, whether as an artist or member of the audience and is passionate about keeping live music loved, alive and available.⠀
⠀
Antonia’s debut EP (2016) is now available on all digital media platforms, along with her debut single released December 2019. She returned to the gig scene in September 2019 after a short break following her son’s birth. She also has an older daughter who arrived just after her EP release.⠀
⠀
Antonia shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:⠀
“As a working mum of two, and even before that, music is something I not only love to produce as a personal outlet but also love as a way to connect other people to their feelings. It is such a powerful thing to help legitimise the feelings of others by being brave enough to air your own, and that is something I have always tried to do.
Time these days is a very limited commodity and being an indie artist feels ever more challenging with needing not only to find the time and opportunity to pour out creatively but then to also récord and produce something to be proud of. Being an independent female artist is precious: a way to empower and support one another.”⠀
