Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
Meghan VK (@meghanvkmusic)
Meghan VK is excited about this new path ahead of her and appreciative of the road that’s taken her here. For the past 7 years, she has been the frontwoman of her band Chantilly Whiskey, performing covers of today’s favorite country radio hits as well as fan-favorite originals. Just a few months after forming the band to better fill out her singer-songwriter sound, she earned the endorsement of local radio station My Country 96.1FM. Meghan is proud to still have that endorsement today.
During the summer of 2019 she:
- opened solo acoustically for Lanco & Michael Ray at the BBQ for Blue police benefit on the main stage of BMHMC Amphitheater
- headlined the main stage at Sayville Summerfest Festival with her band
- Opened for each of the Old Dominion, Chris Janson, and Brett Eldredge(2018 and 2019) shows for the 2019 summer concert series at BMHMC amphitheater
- had two songs recognized by NSAI as “one to watch” (“Game Face”, “Let it Burn”)
- had two songs recognized by NSAI as “recommended for publisher’s luncheon (“One of those nights”, “Full Sentence”)
In the past few years Meghan:
- Shared the Stereo Garden stage with Lindsay Ell for the Angela’s House Benefit
- Headlined her first out of state show
- Performed in Nashville, TN at Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner, Belcourt Taps, and Legend’s
- Featured on the hit internet TV show, The Lounge
- Opened for Toby Keith, Brett Eldredge and Billy Currington at shows at the Bald Hill Amphitheater (summer 2018)
- Opened for Old Dominion, Jake Owen, and Chris Stapleton & Brandy Clark at shows at Pennysaver Amphitheater (2017)
- Released an EP with Chantilly Whiskey, “From the Lakehouse” (2016)
She was also:
- The first featured artist for WLINY’s show, “Unsigned” (2016)
- Crowned Rudi’s & My Country 96.1’s “Next Big Country Star” 2016 (which led to a preshow spot for the Salute to Heroes/Big and Rich show at BMHMC Amphitheater).
- The preshow opener for Little Big Town (2014), Dierks Bentley (2014), and Sam Hunt (2015) at Pennysaver Amphitheater.
A proud member of NSAI and ASCAP, Meghan is constantly writing and working on developing new songs. She is currently working on a weekly video series, titled #MeghanMusicMonday on Facebook and Instagram, where she shares her cover of songs that mean something to her personally and explains why they resonate with her as a songwriter as well. A YouTube channel launch is also in the works for some time in the near future.
Her next body of songs is slated to begin release in early 2020 as singles, culminating in an album release later in 2020.
Meghan shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“Empowerment! Being the captain of my own ship (indie) and being a woman artist just feels empowering to me.”
You can hear Meghan’s single, “Let It Burn” on the Indie Music Women Spotify Playlist.
