Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
NISH
We asked NISH what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman:
“Being a indie music woman artist allows me to write and record songs related to my experiences in life whether that’s a shitty time I’m having or a guy that’s tried breaking my heart. I like to channel storytelling into my songs, like a monologue. I am able to express freely, vent into my notes app on my phone and type away songs that tell chapters of my life.”
NISH is a singer-songwriter from London. Her indie/dreamy-pop music centers around her experiences, from a ‘shitty’ love life to filling the void by trying to run away. NISH channels storytelling into her songs, like a monologue by venting into her notes app on her phone and typing away lyrics that tell chapters of her life. Her influences include Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers and Lily Allen.
Her inspiration really kicked off once she started traveling around Australia and Asia last year. She realised her plan to disappear did not work the way she’d hoped. But instead took advantage of the bad moments by turning it into something artsy and creative and started writing songs in her bedroom. Music has always been a big part of NISH’s life and calls it her ‘best friend’, but coming from a background in Journalism, it wasn’t always something she thought of doing herself. Since coming back to the UK, she did her first EVER gig at Moustache Bar, Dalston and has continued doing some open mics in London and Brighton.
For her upcoming release a.k.a. her first single, ‘Dancefloor at Sea’ – she got her friend to help her film in Brighton, who she met on set for both their first short film together in Yorkshire. NISH directed and edited the music video herself, bringing her journalism skills to use, as well as, creating art promo covers too – after all she is an independent artist! (Bio courtesy of NISH)
‘Dancefloor at Sea Blurb’ is an upbeat, indie dreamy/pop ballad. It is a familiar tale of being delusional over one night of just ‘talking’…into a bigger deal in your head than it actually is. With its sing-along-chorus, this perfect post-summer tune looks back on your hot girl summer that turned into failed lover girl. The official release of the single and accompanying music video is August 18th.
