Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
Reva K (@revakmusic)
Singer/songwriter/producer Reva K fell in love with pop music since she first picked up a guitar at age 8. Drawn to the complex simplicity of pop music, Reva K’s music consists of catchy hooks and memorable lyrics. Growing up as “the quiet kid,” she still jokes that she “sings more than she talks.” In college, she spent her every free second practicing, performing, and sharpening her writing skills. Now, armed with a BFA in Graphic Design and a Minor in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Reva is a creative force both musically and visually, as she designs her own graphics and creates her own music videos to accompany her songs.
Her recent dive into the world of production and beat-making (under the mentorship of Grammy-nominated music producer Ivan Corraliza aka “ill Factor”) has allowed her to become more than just a girl and a guitar. Additionally, her current work and collaboration with Nashville-based Producer & Mixing Engineer Stefan Konstantopoulos (aka “Producer Stefan”) have helped her develop a better understanding of the recording process as well.
Through her musical journey, Reva hopes to inspire others to follow their craziest dreams and wants to share the sense of belonging music has always provided her with the world.
Reva shared with me what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman:
“As a kid I watched my favorite female singers stand up on stages and strum guitars. While that inspired me to do the same, there was something deceivingly simple about the whole show. I now know from living the life of an independent female musician that it’s not easy. Simply strumming a guitar never got me far. And while my favorite artists never showed what went on behind the scenes, it’s something I want to do. I feel lucky to inspire girls to make beats, turn knobs on gear, and produce their own music by showing the hard work that goes on in my studio on my social media pages. I also feel lucky to be able to encourage them to chase their wildest dreams and never give up when things feel impossible. I hope that I can inspire a new generation of girls who don’t just sing and strum a guitar but also are not afraid to pull EQ curves and dial in on compression. That is what being an indie music woman artist means to me.”
