Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is…
Maxine Beck-Sinderby of TANDM (@tandm.band)
TANDM is a Toronto-based Indie Pop duo, consisting of Thomas Franklin and Maxine Beck-Sinderby. They began performing in Canada in 2016, with Maxine on vocals and guitar, and Thomas on drums. Their music is distinctive for Maxine’s sweet melodious vocals and catchy guitar riffs, driven forward by the energy of Thomas’s impeccable drum flourishes. Their songs tell stories of personal pleasures and the flaws in society experienced in young adulthood. TANDM’s music creates a bittersweet and memorable experience for the audience that echoes long after a first listen.
TANDM released their latest single “Earthworm” on January 24, 2020; their first track following the releases of debut EP Reflections, Vol. 1 and subsequent Reflections, Vol. 2 in 2019.
Maxine shared with me what it means to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“Being a woman in the world of indie-music has been nothing but rewarding. To have my music, stories, and performances respected and admired by people of all ages and genders has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life. Specifically, I am proud to know that the messages I have written, of being a woman in the condescending and heartbreaking parts of our society, have been heard by many, and are continuously being shared to raise awareness. What matters to me most is knowing that, somewhere, there is a little girl listening to my songs, the songs that I wish I had heard when I was growing up; and, knowing that she is not alone.”
