Indie Music Women’s Featured Artist of the Day is… Kyetoba (@kyetoba)
Kyetoba is a British composer, songwriter, and singer. Her work so far has covered a range of topics. She references literature, film, video games, mental health, family, and culture. Kyetoba’s music is heavily influenced by her upbringing, infusing a love of rock music with classical. She experiments with unconventional sounds and instrumental combinations.
Her music has been described as cinematic and ethereal but also dark and gritty. Kyetoba’s music is composed to complement both a string orchestra and a rock band. In her work, she creates an orchestral aesthetic, deeply connected to her own love of cinema.
Kyetoba began playing classical violin at age 5, songwriting at age 16, composing at 18, and producing at 22. Her debut EP, Sublime, was self-produced during lock-down and then released in June 2020.
Kyetoba shared with me what it means personally to her to be an indie music woman artist:
“From listening to Vivaldi in the womb to taking up the violin at age 5, music has always been something that I have found to bring me peace. I have an incredibly deep emotional connection with the music I make. It is heavily influenced by spiritual experiences that have shaped my perspective on life and the universe. My musical journey has definitely been a way to realise my own strength and independence, overcoming medical hurdles that had stopped me from singing for years. It is absolutely wonderful to be part of a community of such inspiring indie artists, seeing them grow further with their careers and aspirations.”
