We asked Hattie what it means to her personally to be an indie music woman artist:
“As a musician you are constantly on a journey of self-discovery and growth. It can be a daunting experience feeling pressure to narrow down what begins as a passion to write and create music, to a sound that is “yours”. To me, being an indie music woman artist allows me to create music without boundaries, fusing my musical influences and having the freedom to evolve my own sonic identity. It’s an exciting process to write and release music, but even more-so when you are in control.
Growing up with a family that always had music sound tracking my memories, my musical influences were so broad! From Amy Winehouse to INXS, from Kim Carnes to David Bowie, and then obviously the artists that were current at the time. It took me a while to boil all of these influences down and find out what I wanted to sound like, and if I’m honest I still haven’t. I guess being an indie artist allows me to create pop music with various versions of “my sound” that becomes reminiscent of that melting pot of influences.” (Bio courtesy of Decent Musician PR)
